First Peek: Brand New BMW F 450 GS
Take a first peek at the newest bike from BMW Motorrad: the BMW F 450 GS. Set to shake up the mid-sized adventure segment, this bike is designed specifically for the A2 licence class. The F 450 GS is an exciting way of delivering the distinct GS DNA in a lighter, more approachable, and incredibly capable form. In BMW's own words, it's "a genuine BMW GS in the 48hp class", and from the looks of it, this new adventure bike more than earns the badge.
So, let's see what makes the F 450 GS stand out. To start with, the power is delivered from a newly developed 420cc two-cylinder inline engine, offering 47bhp and 43Nm of torque. While these may seem like a modest figure, BMW are determined that combined with its feather-light 178kg ready-to-ride weight, this playful new adventure bike will deliver the fun you expect on both tarmac and trail. The brand new set up has a unique 135-degree crankpin offset and single balance shaft, creating an engine that is smooth, characterful and even efficient, with around 217 miles to a tank.
The F 450 GS blends together nimble handling, everyday usability and true off-road capability, cementing its place in the GS line-up. With an all-new tubular steel frame, KYB suspension and Brembo front brakes, it gives the rider confidence to push the bike, and their skills, to its limits. The rider can tailor the bike's behaviour with multiple modes: Rain, Road, and Enduro come as standard and Enduro Pro is added in the higher trims for more serious off-roading abilities.
One of the standout features of the F 450 GS is the refined centrifugal clutch system, known as an Easy Ride Clutch. It creates smoother starts, effortless gear changes and much easier stop-and-start traffic negotiations, or tricky terrain, depending on the use.
Visually, this is without a doubt a GS bike. With the iconic "X" LED headlight and rugged design styling that instantly puts off-roading in mind. It has a very useable 6.5-inch TFT display and and a USB-C socket to keep up with the modern world, and with multiple seat options and adjustable ergonomics, it's easy to really turn the F 450 GS into the perfect tailored ride.
There's a choice of four trim levels; Basic, Exclusive, Sport, and Trophy, depending on your needs. So whether you're a new rider looking for your first serious adventure bike or a seasoned off-roader looking for a lighter, more playful companion, the BMW F450 GS hits the sweet spot between accessibility and authenticity.
