Honda's latest release continues the impressive momentum they've had recently. Coming up fast behind the success of the Honda CB1000 Hornet, the manufacturer has released a brand new sports tourer, the Honda CB1000GT. Built for adventure without sacrificing comfort, this new bike laps up the road ahead and really comes alive once the road starts to twist.
While the bike is brand new, Honda is replying on its tried and tested 1000cc inline four cylinder engine from the CBR1000RR Fireblade to do the heavy lifting. It has been tuned for smooth linear delivery, ideal for the touring feel of the CB1000GT. It gives you 147bhp and 102Nm of torque through Honda's Throttle-By-Wire system. The bike's power systems such as Honda Selectable Torque Control, Cornering ABS and its five riding modes (Standard, Sport, Rain, Tour and User) are managed through a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit which balances full-throated performance and safety beautifully. This intelligent management translates to buttery smooth riding while you're cruising but the much craved Honda surge is unleashed once you blip the throttle.
The way the CB1000GT manages to blend the integral Fireblade DNA with wholehearted touring capability. Able to continuously adapt to changing riding conditions thanks to its Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment suspension, it keeps up with motorways and country lanes alike while also staying planted at high speeds. If you're taking a trip that needs baggage or have a pillion to carry, you'll be happy to hear you can tweak the rear preload, even while on the move.
In terms of real-world touring capabilities, the Honda CB1000GT has everything you'll need straight out of the box. There's a five-position adjustable windscreen, heated grips, cruise control, and standard rear panniers. With a generous seat for both rider and pillion and an upright sitting position, this new tourer encourages a natural posture even after hours into the adventure.
Tech-wise, the CB1000GT has all the hallmarks of a modern grand tourer. Full Honda RoadSync connectivity works seamlessly through the five-inch TFT display, handling your navigation, calls and music with ease. The intuitive handlebar switch gear is easily accessible and allows you to keep your attention on the road. Along with the Smart Key ignition, USB-C charging port, auto-cancelling indicators and Emergency Stop Signal, you've got yourself a tourer that's a smart as it is capable.
Visually, the bike looks striking, particularly for a tourer. You can see the Hornet base influence in the design, capitalising on the aggressive-looking fairings and sleek bodywork to give it a distinctive, athletic presence. The aerodynamics were refined by Honda using Computational Fluid Dynamics, to keep wind protection high and handling neutral, which is just what you need from a bike about to eat up all the miles. The CB1000GT is available in Grand Prix Red, Pearl Deep Mud Gray and Graphite Black.
