Where Can I Find Thriving Motorcycle Communities In The UK?

Where Can I Find Thriving Motorcycle Communities In The UK?

While there’s nothing quite like cruising on your own down the open road, world whipping past your visor, you can find a new love in riding and talking with your fellow bikers.

Now, we aren’t necessarily talking about joining a leather-clad band of outlaws. Instead, we’re talking about the fun side of motorcycle ownership, where owning a bike means integrating into a community that’s built for enthusiastic hobbyists just like you.

But where can you find such welcoming biker communities? Well, here at Vertu Motorcycles, we have found the best biker hotspots of the UK by locating the towns and regions where biker cafe hubs are the most common.

Continue reading, below, to see how close you are to a thriving motorcycling community.

Our data shows that the South West and the South East have the most biker cafes in the UK, with 177 and 171 biker cafes, respectively, dotted across these regions.

In total, that’s almost 350 biker cafes in the country’s most southern regions alone. This suggests that bikers are more likely to find welcoming areas for their beloved hobby, the further south they ride, with more places to eat, drink and meet like-minded people.

The only exception, in this regard, is Greater London, which has the least amount of biker cafes in the UK. Although, given its urban landscape and gridlocked roads, it’s hardly a surprise there are just 19 biker cafes in the entire capital. There just isn’t the freedom on the roads in London for a biker community to properly flourish.

We can see how this factor of motorcycle suitability can affect biker cafe numbers in other parts of the country, too. For example, the East Midlands, which has access to beautiful coastal routes and stunning countryside roads, has 58% more biker cafes than the West Midlands, a region dominated by the sprawling metropolis of Birmingham.

According to our research, Masham is the biker capital of the UK. This small Yorkshire town is home to 23 biker cafes, which serve a population of just over 1,200 – that’s 1 biker cafe for every 52 people!

For comparison, Bakewell, which has the second highest biker cafe rate in the country, contains 1 biker cafe for every 119 people. No doubt, the soaring demand for biker cafes in the area is spearheaded by the quieter, open roads and charming countryside scenery.

In fact, 60% of the individual locations with the highest number of biker cafes have a population below 100,000 people. This suggests that you are most likely to find a biker community in more remote locations, away from the big cities and urban areas, where riders are not hamstrung by heavy traffic and constant road works.

If you do want to take your motorcycle to a big city, however, your best bets are Manchester, Portsmouth or Bournemouth. These urban locales may be densely populated, but they are home to more biker cafes than any other of the UK’s big cities.
